Beneath the Same Sky Project

An interesting thing about astronomy is that it is a science that people like to do for fun, on their own free time, with their own money.  People learn about astronomy, buy and build their own telescopes and other equipment, and even do research, just for the love of it.

One of the best-attended science events to ever happen in Louisville was held at the Louisville Free Public Library in 2015.  It featured speeches by two astronomers, one dead, one living.  The dead one was Ormsby Mitchel.  The living one was Guy Consolmagno.

Watch the event—click here for the video—including the questions asked at the end.  This was a long event (about 1.5 hours).

Then look up information on Ormsby Mitchel and Guy Consolmagno.

Write an 800-word essay (typed) that discusses:

1)   Who Mitchel was.

2)   What Mitchel talked about at the library.

3)   Who Consolmagno is.

4)   What Consolmagno talked about at the library.

5)   What you learned from the talk.
