Frequency is the time between wave crests.  In the animation below, the wave f(x,t) has frequency 1, while the wave g(x,t) has frequency of 0.333. 

 

Click on FORWARD below to start the animation.  Watch the rate at which the left edge of each oscillates.  Note how much more rapidly g oscillates than f.  Pause the animation and note that both waves have the same wavelength.

 

Now go back to the WAVELENGTH demo and do the same thing.  In the WAVELENGTH demo both f & g oscillate up and down at the same rate, but they have different wavelengths.

 

Note that, on a sinusoidal wave, each point on the wave moves like a Simple Harmonic Oscillator.
